I live year-round on North Captiva Island, a unique place with no bridge and no easy way back to the mainland. While most people come here for a short visit, I’ve made this island my permanent home. Life here isn’t always simple—hurricanes, power outages, and the challenges of isolation are part of daily reality—but the trade-off is priceless.
Every evening, I watch the sun set over the Gulf, and every day I’m surrounded by the beauty of unspoiled beaches and endless sand. The island only has a couple of bar-and-grills and not much else, but that’s the charm. When people ask if I miss living on the mainland, I just smile and say: “Whenever I think about moving back, I turn on the TV.”
This island is my sanctuary, my challenge, and my home—and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
